Tomes????
A friend of mine purchased a Mesmer Tome. The tome says something to the effect: double click it to learn a skill that is already unlocked on your account.
This didn't make sense because if a skill is unlocked isn't it learned. So we gave it a go and sure enough it listed all the skills that he knew (ulocked) and would not allow him to click on any of them for any other gain. I was going to post this yesterday but wanted to wiki and scratch my head over it before asking another 'GW for Dummies' question. Wiki shed little to no light on this and all I could come up with is that it would work for another character on the account of that profession (does second profession also work?) SO! let me know if this assumption is correct and if so what advantage it would be to have a tome over getting a skill simply by buying it with gold and a skill point. Or the old fashioned way (my personal style) playing through the game and doing quests to earn them. Thanks again in advance--and for those who followed and contributed to my posts yesterday this should move me out of pre-searing cadet Joe |

Tomes are good if you have another character that needs a skill that you have already unlocked on a different character, but don't want to buy it, or can't buy in until the end of the game.
Like if a skill is only available Ring of Fire islands (whatever the hell the outpost is called) and you have a factions character who isn't there yet. Just use the tome, and BAM, there's the skill. That's basically what they're for. Makes it a little easier/quicker to get skills for other characters on your account. |

Its also for the people who PvP, and use their balty faction to unlock skills. Sometimes unlocking a skill with balty faction and obtaining it with a tome is easier then searching for the skill. Especially with elites.

What Katsumi says is true. But if u're doing some PvP and gain some baltazar factions you can use the factions (Priest of Baltazar) to unlock all skills for every profession and afterwards learn them with a tome.

It seems to me that you're confused over the term "unlocked". On your GW "account" you can have multiple "characters". Each skill that each character learns unlocks that skill for the entire account. Another way to unlock a skill is to do some PvP and gain Balthazar Faction, then trading this in to the Priest of Balthazar in the Great Temple of Balthazar in order to unlock the skill. After one of your characters unlocks the skill it is then available for any character you have on that account and using a tome with another character will allow that character to "learn" and use the skill.

in some cases cheaper too
if you have skills unlocked and you need them and you can buy them BUT you pay 1k each it would easier to buy tomes that are 500g eacher you'll save much more that way |
